As generative AI continues to evolve, so do the risks to our privacy. In our latest webinar, The Lioness Instincts hosted an open conversation on how tools like ChatGPT are now being used in open-source intelligence (OSINT) tactics—transforming everyday public data into potential threats to individual safety.
We discussed how generative AI models can:
Geo-locate images based on background cues like tree types, vehicles, and signs—even without metadata.
Cross-reference social media posts and photo details to identify individuals or locations.
Power malicious actors with automated tools that track digital footprints in seconds.
Real-life examples included research covered by Malwarebytes, which showed AI’s frightening ability to determine the location of a single image with unsettling precision.
But it’s not all doom and gloom.
We also walked through tools and techniques to protect yourself:
Remove metadata from photos before uploading.
Limit location tags and personal info shared online.
Use privacy-first tools like Optery and Jumbo.
Be aware of how AI models are trained—and what content you're putting out into the world.
The takeaway? Awareness is your first line of defense. We may not be able to stop AI’s advancement, but we can adapt, educate, and take action to stay ahead.
